Back in 2016 whilst researching for programming, we reached out to numerous inpatient treatment centers to get feedback on what their expectations were for sober living, here is what they told us were their requirements ;
Structure and Accountability: Treatment centers prefer sober living homes that provide a structured environment with clear rules and guidelines. They look for homes that have a system in place to hold residents accountable for their behavior and sobriety.
Supportive Environment: It is important for treatment centers to ensure that the sober living home fosters a supportive and recovery-oriented environment. This may include having staff members or house managers who are trained to support individuals in early recovery and facilitate a positive living environment.
Recovery Resources: Treatment centers may consider the availability of recovery resources within or near the sober living home. This can include access to 12-step meetings, counseling services, outpatient treatment programs, and other support networks.
Safe and Clean Facilities: Treatment centers prioritize the safety and cleanliness of the sober living home. They want to ensure that the physical environment is well-maintained, free from hazards, and conducive to recovery.
Proximity to Treatment Center: Some treatment centers prefer sober living homes that are located in close proximity to their facility. This can make it easier for clients to transition from residential treatment to a sober living environment and continue receiving support from the treatment center.
Communication and Collaboration: Treatment centers value open communication and collaboration with the sober living home staff. They may seek homes that are willing to provide regular updates on residents' progress, attend meetings or consultations, and work together to ensure the best possible care for clients.
These factors are considered to ensure that the sober living home aligns with the treatment center's philosophy and goals, and can provide a supportive and conducive environment for individuals in early recovery.
