Evidence Based Modalities in Recovery

At Steps to Peace and Purpose we are a 12 Step Guided program. Our clients typically have a sponsor and start working steps within the first week of their stay with us. Through our strong Alumni program, many of the chosen sponsors were at one time residents of P&P and return weekly to attend our bonfire/Food and fellowship meeting held every Wednesday at 6pm

There are several evidence-based modalities in recovery that have been proven effective through rigorous research and studies. Here are a few examples:

  1. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is a widely recognized and researched modality that helps individuals identify and modify negative thought patterns and behaviors. It focuses on building coping skills, addressing distorted thinking, and promoting healthier decision-making.

  2. Motivational Interviewing (MI): MI is a client-centered approach that aims to enhance motivation and commitment to change. It involves empathetic listening, collaboration, and guiding individuals towards their own motivations for recovery.

  3. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): DBT combines elements of CBT with mindfulness and acceptance techniques. It is particularly useful for individuals struggling with emotional dysregulation, self-harm, and substance use disorders. DBT emphasizes skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

  4. Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP): MBRP incorporates mindfulness practices to help individuals identify and manage triggers, cravings, and stressors that may lead to relapse. It promotes self-awareness, acceptance, and non-judgmental observation of thoughts and emotions

  5. 12-Step Facilitation Therapy (TSF): TSF is based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and focuses on connecting individuals with the 12-step recovery community. It involves attending meetings, working through the 12 steps, and fostering social support.

  6. Contingency Management (CM): CM is a behavioral approach that uses positive reinforcement to encourage abstinence and promote desired behaviors. It often involves providing rewards or incentives for meeting specific goals, such as clean drug tests.

  7. Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA): CRA is a comprehensive recovery program that focuses on increasing healthy and rewarding activities to replace substance use. It emphasizes social support, vocational training, and family involvement.

These evidence-based modalities provide structured and effective approaches to support individuals in recovery. It's important to note that different modalities may be more suitable for different individuals, and a personalized treatment plan should be tailored to meet their specific needs and preferences
